Project Overview

Wastewater Treatment Facility Construction

National Beef Products solicited UCI to assist with a solution to their wastewater management problem at their Liberal, KS facility. The new stand-alone treatment plant will treat 4mgd of influent waste-water from their production facility. Additionally, the installation of an irrigation pump station will provide 9,000gpm of treated irrigation water to neighboring farm land. The project consisted of a phased approach beginning with Pre-construction/Value Engineering at a design level of 60% through final design. UCI implemented a phased construction sequence that expedited the schedule and optimized the construction season.

The phased approach proved valuable. Over $4,000,000 in value engineering solutions were generated through several collaborative meetings between the UCI’s preconstruction team and the owners operations and engineering teams. The project consists of a large Bardenpho Basin, two clarifiers, a wastewater building that houses plant operations, a laboratory, chemical rooms, blowers, RAS/WAS pump building, dewatering building with sludge bunkers and an irrigation pump station. Over 18,000CY of concrete and over 20,000lf of piping will be installed. UCI is self-performing core trades such as concrete, piping, and equipment installation along with providing a full Turn-Key Management of all other trades and vendors associated with the project.
